Ancient Olympia & Archaeological Museum of Olympia

The archeological site of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, is located in western Peloponnese, in the valley of Alpheios river. It’s the place where the most famous sanctuary of ancient Greece bloomed, dedicated to Zeus, and it’s also the place where the Olympic Games of Antiquity were held. The Archeological Museum of Olympia hosts many archeological finds, among which are the prominent statue of Hermes of Praxiteles and the widest collection of copper artefacts in the world. The rights of the depicted monuments belong to the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports (Law 4858/2021). The Archeological Site and the Archeological Museum of Olympia fall within the competence of Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia.
