Messolonghi Lagoon
The largest lagoon system in Greece is located between the Gulf of Patras and the Ionian Sea, at the mouths of the rivers Evinos and Acheloos. The Messolonghi lagoon is a protected environmental park: it is home to over 280 species of birds, has the largest salt pans in the country and is also the place where the world-famous roe is produced. Besides the scenic beauty, here you will also photograph the “pelades”, the wooden houses built on the water.
